Welcome to the Health Plus Minute, One of the things I’ve been sharing is the concept of how important goal setting is. Many of you listening set goals at the beginning of the new year. I want to share with you something important to know. It’s called the dip. When we plan for change, we expect that things will respond in a linear fashion. If I want a bigger fire, add more wood. The dip doesn’t work that way. To move toward a new goal, it takes effort to overcome the inertial pull of our old ways. As we overcome, we begin to move forward and the curve goes up. With continued effort, we continue to climb. Everything’s improving. But then we hit the dip. The dip is when the positive changes seem to come to a halt. We may even feel that things are reversing. Most people quit in the dip. The perception is the dip means failure. You think you’ve hit your max. It means just the opposite. It means you’ve arrived. Embracing the dip with perseverance and a steadfast determination will catapult you to the real max, to the heights you imagined. That’s the hard thing to do. But think like an archer. An arrow can only be launched by pulling it backward. Lean into the dip. ProMotion Physical Therapy and Functional Fitness. Be strong. Be connected.
